Kogi govt tasks NYSC members on discipline, service at Batch ‘B’ orientation

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called on newly deployed Corps Members to uphold discipline, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility throughout their service year and beyond, emphasizing the critical role of young graduates in national development.

The Governor gave the charge during the swearing-in ceremony of 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba. He was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe.

Addressing the 2,926 Corps Members deployed to the state, Governor Ododo urged them to conduct themselves with decorum, actively participate in camp activities, and embrace values that promote unity, accountability, and service to the nation.

He stressed that the NYSC scheme, since its establishment in 1973, has remained a vital platform for fostering national integration and contributing to sustainable development across Nigeria.

“Our administration will continue to work tirelessly to create job opportunities for unemployed youths, while ensuring that the welfare of Corps Members remains a top priority at all times,” the Governor stated.

He encouraged the Corps Members to approach their service year with sincerity and commitment, noting that the experience offers a unique opportunity to make meaningful contributions to their host communities and the country at large.

Governor Ododo further called on them to align with the developmental vision of his administration by supporting initiatives aimed at delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kogi State.

In his remarks, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to youth empowerment and development, urging the Corps Members to see their service year as a foundation for future leadership and national impact.

He highlighted the importance of discipline not only within the orientation camp but as a lifelong principle that will shape their personal and professional journeys.

The Governor also commended the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Chris-Moneke Chika Tochi, alongside other stakeholders, for their continued commitment to instilling discipline and leadership values in Corps Members.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator advised the Corps Members to strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations, warning that violations would not be tolerated. She also appealed for sustained government support to enhance the smooth operation of the orientation programme.

Over 2,000 Corps Members are currently participating in the ongoing orientation exercise in Kogi State, marking the beginning of a service year expected to contribute meaningfully to community development and national progress.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed call for patriotism, discipline, and a collective commitment to building a stronger and more united Nigeria.
