Today, June 21 is Father’s Day.   It is  the only day, usually the third Sunday in June set to appreciate the  role of Fathers in our lives.

Why do we need to celebrate and appreciate Fathers?   One of the answers is that no one can be born without the input of a Father.

Also, God created Man first and  man became a Father.

That aside,  the Lord Jesus while teaching us how to relate with God,  said in  Matthew 6 vs. 4:  (KJV)“ That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth  in secret himself shall reward  thee openly”.

In Matthew 6  vs. 6-9 said: “  But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which  is in secret, and thy Father  which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repeitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

After this  manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art  in heaven, Hallowed be thy name”.

Beloved, we are considering this Bible passages because of the regular reference of Jesus to God as the Father.

He never described God as mother.

As Christians we also say, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Jesus presented God the Father as the one that is able to meet your needs.  He even presented God the Father as one that is aware of your need even before you ask.

That is for the heavenly father.

For the earthly father, God created him to be a crucial factor in bringing forth the child   with the cooperation of the woman that was made out of him.

In Genesis 1 vs. 29 &30 God empowered the man to be the  provider for the family.

“ And God said, Behold, I have given  you every herb bearing seed, which is upon  the face of the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding  seed; to you it shall be meat.

And to every  beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air,  and to everything  that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given  every green herb or meat: and it was so”.

God gave the man what  you call  today, a balanced diet to feed his family.

I pray for all men who are Fathers and those that would be fathers that  everything that you need to be the head of your family  material  provision and spiritual leadership, the Lord will give unto you in Jesus name.

Brethren, the role of a Father is important in the life of a child.    The words that they speak unto a child would help to shape the life of the child for good or for bad.

Let’s see  Eli and his sons. Eli heard of the wrong doings of his sons, he rebuked them but they failed to take to correction.   For this,  they paid the supreme price of death.

1st Samuel 2  vs. 12 & 22-25:” Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD”.

Verses 22-25: “Now Eli was very old, and he heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the terbanacle of the congregation.

And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’s people to transgress.

If one man sin against another, the judge  shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father because the LORD would slay them”.

If Eli’s son’s had listened to their father, repented and changed their ways, the merciful God would not have wiped out their generation but they did not  heed their father’s warning and they were wiped out.

On the other hand let’s see how Isaac blessed Jacob.

Genesis 27 vs. 28 &29 : “ Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

Let people  serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: cursed  be everyone that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee”.

Even when Esau knew that his brother had stolen his blessings he still insisted that his father, Isaac should bless him too.

Verse 34 of the same chapter. “ And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried  out with a grate and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father”.

If a father’s blessing isn’t important, why did Esau cry bitterly? Why did he ask to be blessed too?

In comparison, we’ll see that whereas, the father’s inaction and  the children’s disobedience  made God wipe out Eli’s generation, in the case of Jacob and Esau, the father’s blesings made both of them very great and their generation preserved even to this day.

In the spirit of Father’s Day, all mothers and guardians must encourage children young or adults to seek their father’s blessings.

A single mother that denies  her child , a link with his or her father, may be taking a step that would hinder the progress of that child in life.

A child needs the blessings of a biological and spiritual father to attract blessings that come from the father’s heart as Isaac happily blessed Jacob.

Beloved, if you are yet to have a child, at least you have a father.    Bless your father and get his blessings.

Joseph was a man when he became prime minister in Egypt, yet he cared for his father ensuring that he brought  his father  from lack to abundance of  food and good life.

While  giving us the 10 commandments,  in Exodus 20 vs. 12  the Lord said, “ Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy giveth thee”.

This the only commandment that God told us what would follow.

Therefore, whatever  may be the differences that parents have, they should never allow children to disrespect their father.

On a day like this, and always, a good mother should encourage a child to appreciate his or her father and get his blessings.

A father’s blessing is so important in the life of a child. 

A child that has no regards for his earthly father, would not have any regard for his spiritual father ( Pastor) let alone  our heavenly father.

Brethren as we mark Father’s Day today, may our Father in heaven shower us with blessings in Jesus name.

For those marking Father’s today without biological children, my prayer for you is that by this time next year, you baby or babies will be  in your hands in Jesus name.

Meanwhile, you go ahead and get the blessing of your father, biological or spiritual.

Do not go empty handed. Make  sure  you present a gift.
