A dispute has emerged within the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) over the Imo West Senatorial District primary election, as Hon. Uche Ben Odunzeh has called for intervention from the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to help address concerns surrounding the outcome.

Odunzeh stated that he emerged winner of the primary election, describing the process as transparent and conducted under the supervision of party electoral officials with stakeholders present. He maintained that available records and documentation support his claim.

He explained that before purchasing his nomination forms, he consulted former Imo State Governor Chief Achike Udenwa, who encouraged him to participate in the contest. According to him, he later entered the race based on his political background and support within the Orlu Zone.

He appealed for respect for the outcome of the exercise, stressing the importance of internal democracy and adherence to due process within political parties. He noted that any decision regarding the candidacy should reflect the will expressed through the delegates’ votes.

Odunzeh also urged the National Leadership of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) to review the available documentation and affirm the outcome of the primary election.

He further called on Peter Obi to lend moral support toward ensuring that democratic principles are upheld within the party, stating that the credibility of political movements depends on fairness, transparency, and respect for internal processes.

He concluded by urging that the matter be addressed in a manner that strengthens confidence in the political process and reinforces internal democracy within the party.
