Thousands of Nigerian students may soon benefit from expanded educational and empowerment opportunities following a strategic engagement between the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students ,NANS,and the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited ,TSSNL, High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi.

The meeting, led by NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, culminated in major commitments from the oil infrastructure security firm, including the approval of local and international scholarship schemes, employment opportunities for graduates and stakeholders, as well as mobility support for the student body’s leadership.

The development marks a significant boost to student welfare efforts and underscores growing collaboration between the private sector and youth-focused institutions in addressing educational and economic challenges facing Nigerian students.

Speaking during the engagement, Akinteye described students as indispensable stakeholders in national development and future leaders whose advancement must remain a national priority.

He stressed that Nigeria’s oil and gas sector remains the backbone of the economy and commended Tantita Security Services for its role in protecting critical national assets through technology-driven surveillance, intelligence gathering, and security operations across the Niger Delta.

The NANS President also threw the association’s weight behind the company amid calls in some quarters for the Federal Government to discontinue its services.

According to him, Tantita has distinguished itself through its contributions to national security, protection of oil infrastructure, economic stability, job creation, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives.

“Contrary to the calls by certain detractors urging the Federal Government to terminate Tantita’s contract, NANS recognizes and appreciates the company’s remarkable contributions to national development and economic security,” he said.

Akinteye used the opportunity to appeal for expanded educational support for Nigerian students through scholarship programmes that would provide both local and international learning opportunities.

He argued that access to quality education and global exposure would strengthen the academic and professional capacities of young Nigerians and position them to compete effectively in the global economy. The student leader further requested that the company create pathways for employment and career development for students and graduates, noting that investment in education and youth empowerment remains critical to Nigeria’s future.

Responding, Pondi reaffirmed Tantita’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote national development and youth advancement.

He highlighted the company’s achievements in combating crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering through intelligence-led operations, advanced surveillance systems, and community-based security engagement.

According to him, the company’s interventions have contributed significantly to improved crude oil production, enhanced operational efficiency in the petroleum sector, and increased socio-economic stability in host communities.

Pondi also pointed to the firm’s record in job creation, youth engagement, and community empowerment programmes across the Niger Delta.

In a move that drew applause from the student delegation, the Tantita boss approved NANS’ requests for scholarship support, covering both local and international programmes, and pledged employment opportunities for graduates and other stakeholders.

He also approved mobility support for the association’s leadership, while assuring Nigerian students of the company’s continued partnership in promoting education, empowerment, and national development.

The commitments are expected to open new opportunities for students across the country and strengthen private-sector participation in educational development and youth empowerment initiatives.
