The Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations (JACONYA) has congratulated Hon. Prince Abdussamad Dasuki, the Santuraki of Sokoto, on his appointment as Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, describing it as recognition of his legislative competence, leadership qualities and commitment to public service.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Director of Public and Strategic Communication, Muhammad Isa Imam, the coalition said Dasuki’s emergence was a well-deserved honour that reflected years of dedicated service to Sokoto State and Nigeria.

JACONYA noted that Dasuki has built an impressive record in public service, having served in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, represented his constituency in the National Assembly between 2015 and 2019, and later held office as Commissioner of Finance in Sokoto State.

The group also highlighted his traditional title as the second Santuraki of Sokoto, conferred by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, describing it as evidence of his longstanding commitment to community development, philanthropy and service to humanity.

According to the coalition, Dasuki’s legislative contributions, including his sponsorship of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Bill and the Not Too Young to Run Bill, have had a significant impact on national development. It also commended his oversight efforts, which it said contributed to the establishment of the Navy Secondary School in Tambuwal, Sokoto State.

While celebrating the appointment, JACONYA urged the new Deputy Minority Leader to use his position to advance transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.

The coalition called on him to champion the rule of law, safeguard the independence of the legislature and promote inclusive governance that guarantees equal opportunities and rights for all Nigerians.

It further urged Dasuki to leverage his experience and influence to advocate policies that would expand access to quality education, stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities for young people across Northern Nigeria.

The group also stressed the importance of robust legislative oversight of the executive arm of government, particularly in the areas of finance, security and infrastructure, to ensure that public programmes deliver meaningful benefits to citizens.

“We have no doubt that Hon. Dasuki, who has already earned cross-party endorsements in his constituency due to his respect for humanity and outstanding performance, will rise to this occasion. We urge him to remain the humble and hardworking leader we know and to use his voice and vote to deepen democracy and improve the lives of Nigerians,” the statement said.

JACONYA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting leaders who demonstrate integrity, compassion and dedication to the common good, expressing confidence that Dasuki would justify the trust reposed in him through exemplary leadership in the National Assembly.
