A Professor at the China Africa Think Tank Research Center, Hui An, has said that recent high level diplomatic engagements between China and major world powers are helping to strengthen global stability and create new opportunities for developing countries, including Nigeria.

In a press statement on Monday, Hui said the recent meetings between Chinese leaders and their counterparts from the United States and Russia reflected a growing commitment to dialogue, cooperation and peaceful development at a time of increasing global uncertainty and conflict.

According to him, the engagements have attracted worldwide attention and underscored the importance of cooperation among major powers in addressing global economic and security challenges.

The professor noted that the China United States leaders’ meeting, held from May 13 to 15, produced agreements aimed at expanding economic and trade cooperation. 

He said both countries agreed to establish special councils on trade and investment while deepening collaboration in agriculture, diplomacy, tourism, cultural exchanges and law enforcement.

He added that the participation of leading American business executives in the United States delegation highlighted growing confidence in China’s market and its role in the global economy.

On international security issues, Hui said China has continued to advocate dialogue and peaceful settlement of disputes, including support for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in the Middle East.

Speaking on China Russia relations, the professor said the recent leaders’ meeting marked important milestones in bilateral ties, including the 30th anniversary of the strategic cooperative partnership between both countries and the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation.

He said both nations agreed to strengthen political trust, expand practical cooperation, promote educational exchanges and improve coordination on global governance matters.

Hui further stated that China’s commitment to openness and international cooperation remains strong, noting that more than 20 foreign political leaders have visited the country since the beginning of the year.

He said Africa stands to benefit significantly from improved relations among major powers, adding that Nigeria could leverage China’s opening up policies to boost trade, attract investment and support industrial development.

According to him, stronger international cooperation would create broader opportunities for Nigeria in infrastructure development, new energy, artificial intelligence, trade and people to people exchanges.

The professor reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Nigeria and other African countries, saying both sides would continue to explore new opportunities for mutually beneficial development.
