The governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Lagos State, Prince Adelaja Adeoye, has released a copy of his acknowledged resignation letter from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Adeoye, who recently threatened a N10 billion lawsuit over the inclusion of his name in a purported suspension list circulated by some PDP members, described the action as misleading, defamatory and legally untenable.
In a statement issued by the Laja Adeoye Campaign Organisation, LACO, Adeoye said he voluntarily resigned from the PDP several months ago and that his resignation was formally communicated to and acknowledged by the party.
According to him, he has since become a full-fledged member of the APM and has fulfilled all legal and electoral requirements relating to his political affiliation.
“I have since become a full-fledged member of the APM and have fulfilled all legal and electoral requirements relating to my political affiliation.
“My APM membership card has been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and all documentary evidence confirms that I am no longer a member of the PDP.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I voluntarily resigned my membership of the PDP several months ago.
“It is inconceivable and procedurally impossible for a political party to suspend an individual who is no longer a member of that party,” he said.
Adeoye further alleged that the inclusion of his name on the suspension list demonstrated what he described as the recklessness of those behind it and raised questions about their understanding of political and legal processes.
While noting that LACO was not concerned with the internal affairs of the PDP, the organisation’s spokesperson, Ayodele Kazeem, said it could not ignore attempts to associate its principal with disciplinary actions of a party he had already left.
Kazeem demanded the immediate removal of Adeoye’s name from the purported suspension list and called for the withdrawal of related publications.
He further alleged that some individuals presenting themselves as PDP leaders were working against the interests of the opposition party.
“Laja Adeoye resigned from the PDP and his resignation letter was duly acknowledged. He is now a full-fledged member of the APM.
“His membership card has been submitted to INEC. We believe attempts to link him with PDP disciplinary actions are misplaced,” he said.
