A Socio cultural group in Kwara South,Orisun Igbomina has called on stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress and the people of Kwara South Senatorial District not to support automatic ticket or undue advantage for any sitting legislator ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President of Orisun Igbomina, Chief Gbenga Awoyale, in a press statement issued in ilorin on Thursday noted that democracy thrives on competition, accountability, and the free choice of party members and the electorate.
” No elected official, regardless of status or office, should be seen as having a pre-arranged return ticket without subjecting themselves to the established democratic process within the party.”he harped.
Awoyale posited that the growing perception in some quarters that certain serving lawmakers may be positioning for automatic return through political influence or internal arrangements is unhealthy for party cohesion and discouraging to emerging leaders and stakeholders who also have legitimate aspirations.
“Every aspirant, whether incumbent or newcomer, must pass through the same party nomination process and earn the trust of delegates and party members through performance, consultation, acceptability, and political engagement. Democracy is not hereditary, neither is representation a personal entitlement,” he stated.
The Orisun Igbomina President further said that incumbency alone cannot be the basis for return tickets, especially where there are legitimate public concerns over performance and impact.
“Public office holders must be able to account convincingly for the mandates entrusted to them. Beyond titles and ranking positions, the people expect visible legislative impact, quality representation, constituency engagement, effective motions, oversight functions, and tangible developmental contributions to the district,” he said.
He added that constituents reserve the democratic right to interrogate the records of serving lawmakers and determine whether their stewardship justifies re-election.
Awoyale therefore urged the APC leadership in Kwara State to ensure a transparent, fair, and level playing field for all aspirants, warning that any perception of imposition or preferential treatment could deepen internal discontent within the party.
He also called on political stakeholders across Kwara South to prioritise unity, dialogue, and merit in the build-up to 2027, insisting that the district must move away from entitlement politics and embrace a culture where leadership is earned through service, credibility, and broad acceptability.
“2027 should not be about political monopoly or automatic succession. It should be about who possesses the vision, capacity, fairness, and connection with the grassroots to advance the collective interests of Kwara South,”he said.
