The President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has paid glowing tribute to former Voice of America (VOA) correspondent, Saleh Shehu Ashaka, describing his death as a major loss to the journalism profession and the country.

Gwarzo said the late Ashaka was a distinguished media professional who devoted his life to promoting ethical standards and professionalism in journalism, earning widespread respect both within and outside Nigeria.

“Saleh was not just an outstanding journalist but also a philanthropist who touched many lives. The outpouring of tributes across the country reflects his character as a kind, humble and benevolent individual,” he said.

He noted that Ashaka was among the finest correspondents produced by VOA, known for his calm voice and balanced reporting style, which endeared him to audiences over the years.

According to Gwarzo, the late journalist’s passing has created a vacuum in the media space that will be difficult to fill, particularly at a time when the industry requires experienced and principled practitioners.

He extended his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, praying to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and comfort those he left behind.
