UYO—The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for his support to security agencies operating in the state.
Musa gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Uyo, where he praised the governor’s backing of the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and other security formations.
“I must commend you for supporting the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and other security formations in the state. I assure you of the commitment of the various agencies to secure Nigeria and ensure peace,” he said.
On national security, the minister noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had made progress, adding that efforts to strengthen security involve both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
He explained that while kinetic measures involve the use of force, non-kinetic strategies focus on good governance, which he said is being demonstrated in Akwa Ibom.
Musa stressed the need for collective responsibility in security management, urging citizens to collaborate with authorities and report suspicious activities.
He also lauded the governor’s infrastructural strides, noting visible improvements across the state.
“Driving across the state, I observed quality roads and other indicators of good governance. These achievements show that development is achievable,” he added.
The minister, who was in the state to deliver the convocation lecture at the combined ceremony of Akwa Ibom State University, appreciated the governor for the warm reception and the opportunity to address the gathering.
He further noted that the prevailing peace in the state reflects the government’s commitment to the welfare of its people, expressing hope for improved security across the country.
In his remarks, Governor Eno thanked the minister for accepting to deliver the convocation lecture and commended his contributions to national service.
He also expressed condolences over the loss of military personnel in parts of the country and called for continued support to security agencies in the state.
The governor attributed the relative peace in Akwa Ibom to effective collaboration among security agencies and assured of sustained support to enhance their operations.
