A’Ibom South 2027: Why Sen Sampson deserves continuity in office – Group

Constituents grouped under Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency Renaissance Movement have called for support to ensure 2027 reelection of Sen Ekong Sampson into Akwa South Senatorial seat to boost his ranking status, critical to attracting meaningful federal projects.

In a statement signed by its Contact and Mobilisation Officer, Imo Udoma, the group asked stakeholders in the district to view continuity in office as a development strategy rather than politics.

“Ranking Senator status is Ikot Abasi’s fastest route to federal projects and influence,” Udoma noted, emphasizing that experience in the National Assembly translates directly into development outcomes.

The statement highlighted Sampson’s first-term record, noting his bill seeking legal backing for the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi, has passed third reading in the Senate alongside interventions in infrastructure and scholarships.

“A returning Senator understands the rules, the networks and the shortcuts to delivery. With tenure security, Sen Sampson will build on this foundation instead of starting afresh”, Udoma further stated.

The group further explained that Senate Standing Orders favour ranking lawmakers for committee chairmanships and principal offices, positions crucial for influencing national budgets and attracting development projects.

It cited the example of Udoma Udo Udoma, who served as Senate Chief Whip in his second term, noting that his elevation brought increased federal presence and development to the region.

Udoma continued, “More influence in Abuja means more roads, schools, and empowerment programmes in Ikot Abasi.

“We know what ranking status brings. Senator Sampson has started strong with the FUTIA Bill, new classrooms, and scholarships. With ranking status, he will multiply these results.”

The group therefore urged political stakeholders, traditional leaders, and constituents across Akwa Ibom South to unite in the push for a ranking senator as key to sustaining development in the district.
