NPY backs Tantita on pipeline surveillance contract

The Northern Progressive Youth (NPY) has commended Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for its impactful role in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil pipelines, describing its intervention as a critical factor in the recovery of the nation’s oil production and revenue stability.

In a press statement issued in Abuja, the group called on the Federal Government to renew and sustain the surveillance contract, citing credible industry data that shows a clear improvement before and after Tantita’s engagement in 2022.

The statement by Michael Achor Joshua, NPY National Leader noted that before Tantita, Nigeria’s crude oil production fell below 1 million barrels per day (bpd) at some points in 2022 due to theft and vandalism

“Average production hovered around 1.2 – 1.4 million bpd in 2022, far below the OPEC quota of 1.8 million bpd In November 2022, production was about 1.18 million bpd Nigeria lost billions annually to crude oil theft, with over $1.3 billion lost in Q1 2023 alone.

“This period was marked by massive pipeline vandalism, illegal refining, and declining investor confidence.

“Following the Federal Government’s engagement of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in 2022, multiple official data sources confirm significant recovery: Nigeria’s crude oil production rose to about 1.6 – 1.7 million bpd in 2025; Output reached 1.71 million bpd in July 2025 according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC); NNPC reported production levels of up to 1.8 million bpd in late 2024.

“These figures represent a strong recovery trajectory compared to the sub-1.2 million bpd levels recorded during the peak of pipeline insecurity.”

They warned that discontinuing the contract could reverse the progress already achieved. The group emphasized that Nigeria’s oil pipelines remain the backbone of the economy.
