Issele-Uku: PBGS old boys begin corps members’ lodge project

The Old Boys Association of Pilgrim Baptist Grammar School (PBGS), Issele-Uku, Aniocha North LGA, Delta State, has commenced construction of a Corps Members’ Lodge to sustain the legacy of the school’s founder, Rev. Dr. Samuel Wadiei Martin.

The ground-breaking ceremony, held on Friday, March 20, 2026, followed a courtesy visit to the monarch of Issele-Uku Kingdom, HRM Agbogidi Obi Nduka. Present were the school principal, Mrs. Peace Ngozi Agbeyeke; Vice Principal (Administration), Mrs. Dibie Bethel Edebiri; and members of the association.

National President of the association, Prince Ugeh Ofordile, described the project as a milestone in efforts to give back to the institution.

“This is a historic achievement and part of our commitment to add value to PBGS,” he said, noting that the lodge forms part of a broader development plan to support corps members and strengthen the academic environment.

He commended members for their contributions and appealed for sustained support to ensure timely completion.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Project Committee, Mr. Ayodele Elvis Oniemola, stressed the need to preserve the vision of the founder, describing PBGS as a product of purposeful leadership and dedication to education.

He noted that renewed efforts to reposition the school began in 2022, adding that the association remains committed to restoring its standards.

“We are taking practical steps to rebuild and sustain what Rev. Martin established,” he said.

Chairman of the ceremony, Chief Augustine Aghaulor (Class of 1971), a retired United Nations staff member, urged members to remain committed to the school’s legacy, recalling its past academic excellence.

Principal of the school, Mrs. Agbeyeke, commended the initiative and expressed optimism about its impact.

Also speaking, a corps member, Mr. Ezaka Simon Okwudiri, said the project would improve the welfare of serving corps members and enhance their contribution to the school.

The event attracted several notable alumni from different sets.

The project comprises a six-unit self-contained lodge, each fitted with kitchen and toilet facilities, alongside a perimeter fence, emergency exit, and other amenities to provide secure and comfortable accommodation for corps members.
