‎‎Communities across Kogi West Senatorial District have continued to express satisfaction with the performance of the lawmaker representing the district in the Senate, Sunday Steve Karimi, citing a growing list of development projects and people-focused initiatives delivered within less than three years in office.

‎‎This position was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja by Hon. Tunde Akanmidu, Senior Legislative Aide to the Deputy President of the Senate.

‎‎Akwnmidu noted that the Senator’s interventions in infrastructure, education, security and economic empowerment have significantly improved living conditions across the seven local government areas of Kogi West.

‎‎According to Akanmidu, Senator Karimi’s representation has remained focused on sustainable development and tangible impact rather than short-term political gains, stressing that his record of service continues to strengthen the confidence reposed in him by the people of the district.

‎‎”Within the period under review, Senator Karimi has facilitated development projects worth over ₦3 billion across Kogi West. These include the construction of 90 solar-powered boreholes and the rehabilitation of about 80 previously non-functional water schemes, restoring access to potable water for thousands of households.”

‎‎The statement added that several electricity transformers, including 500KVA and 300KVA units, have also been provided across the seven local government areas to help address persistent power supply challenges in many communities.

‎‎Akanmidu further explained that the Senator has also supported security efforts in the district through the facilitation of a military Forward Operating Base in Egbe, an intervention expected to strengthen security operations and enhance the protection of lives and property.

‎‎”Education remains a key component of Senator Karimi’s legislative agenda. The lawmaker recently relaunched a ₦300 million bursary scheme benefiting about 3,000 students in public tertiary institutions with grants of ₦100,000 each to help ease the financial burden of education.

‎‎”The initiative followed an earlier ₦100 million bursary programme in 2024 which supported 1,000 students across the senatorial district.

‎‎”The Senator also facilitated the construction of a ₦160 million Computer-Based Test centre to improve digital examination infrastructure, while several secondary schools across the district have benefitted from renovation and infrastructure upgrades.”

‎‎On economic empowerment, Akanmidu disclosed that more than 2,000 women and small-scale traders have benefitted from grants of ₦100,000 each aimed at strengthening small businesses and stimulating economic activities within local communities.

‎‎He also highlighted Senator Karimi’s legislative contributions at the National Assembly, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Senate Services, playing a key role in the administrative management and welfare of the Senate.

‎‎According to him, “The Senator has also sponsored and supported critical legislative initiatives, including amendments to the Central Bank of Nigeria Act and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission Act aimed at strengthening transparency and institutional accountability.”

‎‎Akanmidu urged the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, to remain focused on governance and disregard calls from political groups attempting to create distractions around the Senator’s performance.

‎‎He maintained that the ongoing projects and programmes across Kogi West demonstrate Senator Karimi’s commitment to delivering meaningful representation and advancing development across the senatorial district.
