The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has said its primary school Bible quiz competition is aimed at addressing leadership challenges in the country by nurturing children with strong moral and scriptural values.
Officials of the society made this known during the fifth edition of the competition held at the Salvation Army Auditorium in Onipanu, Lagos, where they stressed that exposing young minds to biblical teachings is essential for building character and securing the nation’s future.
The General Secretary of BSN, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, said the programme targets children during their formative years, describing the Bible as a foundation for moral values and success in life.
He encouraged pupils, parents and teachers to remain committed to the study of the scriptures, noting that such dedication would help shape responsible leaders for the future.
Also speaking, the Assistant General Secretary for Corporate Development, Mr. Yemi Olayiwola, explained that the society’s programmes are designed to engage people with the scriptures, with special focus on children.
According to him, the initiative is part of efforts to raise future leaders who will be guided by biblical principles.
“Presently, one of the key problems we have in our country is that of leadership, and these young children will grow up to become leaders. We want leaders who will act from the perspective of the scriptures,” Olayiwola said.
He added that the quiz competition seeks to groom children in the knowledge and wisdom of the Bible, preparing them for academic pursuits, careers and leadership responsibilities.
Olayiwola stressed that the society would continue to organise programmes that contribute to the moral and intellectual development of children.
“We believe that if we get it right at their age, then the Nigeria project will have a better future,” he said.
At the end of the competition, Angels on Mission School, Iganmu, Lagos, emerged winner of the fifth edition of the BSN Primary School Bible Quiz.
God’s Glory Abides Nursery and Primary School, Surulere, came second with 70 per cent, while Elias International Nursery and Primary School finished third with 65 per cent.
New Estate Baptist Nursery and Primary School secured fourth place with 60 per cent, followed by De-Future Hope School in fifth place with 55 per cent, while Good Shepherd School placed sixth with 35 per cent.
