The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Senator Nenadi Usman, has said that while the party remains open to all Nigerians, it is particularly interested in attracting members who share its vision for a better Nigeria where justice and the rule of law prevail.

Usman stated this on Friday while receiving party members from the ten wards of Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, her home constituency, who paid her a courtesy visit at her office in Abuja.

Expressing delight over the visit, the LP chairman thanked the delegation for their patience and resilience during the party’s recent leadership crisis.

“I am happy to see you all who have made time to come and felicitate with me. Since I assumed office, we had discussions with the Local Government Secretary over plans to host this delegation, and I thank God that today it has become a reality,” she said.

Usman noted that the visit came at a crucial time when the party was discussing its ongoing electronic registration of members and preparations for upcoming party congresses.

She also used the occasion to appreciate the visitors for their steadfast support over the years.

“I cannot thank you enough for your support, patience and resilience over the years. From my time in my former party, the PDP, I observed that there are two types of people who join political parties.

“The first are those who join any party that is in power, while the second are die-hard loyalists who remain committed to their party regardless of circumstances. It is the second group that we must cultivate, support, nurture and encourage to grow our party,” she said.

According to her, the strength of any political party lies in the commitment of its members, adding that the Labour Party needs loyal and dedicated members to build a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She also pledged to continue supporting the party in every legitimate way to strengthen its structures at all levels.

Earlier, the Chairman of Aribi Ward, Mr. Joseph Ali, commended Usman for her contributions to the community and her leadership in the party.

“We know how hard you have worked for us as a people since your days as Commissioner, Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator and now National Chairman of our great party.

“Our prayer is that under your leadership, the Labour Party will win elections at all levels, including the presidency,” he said.

Ali also appealed to the LP chairman to reach out to aggrieved members of the party to encourage reconciliation and unity.

He added that although some former LP members who defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were mounting pressure on them to follow suit, they had remained loyal to the Labour Party.

Similarly, the Chairman of Kagarko South Ward, Lawal Mohammed, briefed the National Chairman on developments in the area and expressed confidence that the party was making progress in its reconciliation efforts with her support.
