The Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority, Engr. Olalekan Badmus, has praised journalists in Osun State for their dedication to democratic values and responsible reporting.

Badmus facilitated the repainting of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Osogbo, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the media. He commended journalists for maintaining professionalism, even in challenging circumstances.

“The media is a critical pillar of democracy, promoting accountability, transparency, and informed public discourse,” he said. “Correspondents in Osun State have consistently reported with responsibility and impartiality, contributing to good governance and socio-economic development.”

Badmus highlighted the journalists’ role during the local government crisis, noting that they reported all perspectives without bias until the apex court affirmed the All Progressives Congress (APC) members as the legitimate executives.

He also expressed support for the media under future leadership, stating, “When Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) becomes governor, he will further empower journalists, ensuring they remain the fourth estate of the realm.” Badmus recalled AMBO’s recent media-friendly award as CEO of NIWA, pledging similar recognition for the press as governor.

On the chapel renovation, he added, “Investing in journalism infrastructure is an investment in democracy and national development. As the 2026 Osun governorship election approaches, journalists should uphold ethical standards, avoid sensationalism, and report facts in the public interest.”

Responding, the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Vice Chairman, Comrade Ayobami Agboola, welcomed the gesture, calling it timely and impactful. He highlighted additional needs, including solar inverters, laptops, and internet facilities, and expressed the union’s ambition to establish a secretariat in Ola-Iya, Osogbo to further support members and train the next generation of journalists.
