APC Chieftain to El-Rufai: Submit to DSS probe, stop ‘drama’

ABUJA — A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta, Chief Victor Ogba, has called on former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai to present himself to the Department of State Services (DSS) for questioning, saying cooperation with security agencies is the proper course for any law-abiding citizen.

Journalists were briefed in Abuja on Monday, where Ogba reacted to El-Rufai’s allegation that DSS operatives attempted to arrest him at the airport after his return from Cairo.

“I don’t see anything wrong in El-Rufai making himself available to the police or DSS for interrogations if he is truly clean as he claims,” Ogba said.

“He should stop dramatizing the whole scenario by raising false alarms over constitutional matters, arrest is constitutional and no one is above the law,” he added.

Ogba said the seizure of the former governor’s passport could be linked to routine watch-list procedures, noting that existing security regulations empower the agency to take such steps when necessary.

According to him, Section 2 of the DSS instrument regulation, which is in compliance with the National Security Adviser Act, gives the DSS the power to seize passports of persons on the watch list.

He urged El-Rufai to engage the agency to determine the reason for the action and clear himself, while also calling for constructive criticism and cautioning against what he described as deliberate mischievous acts aimed at maligning the government.
