ABUJA -THE Ambassador Amina Albert Care and Shelter Initiative, Sunday, distributed sewing machines, grinding machines, and other essential items to Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, Camp in Abuja to mark the Amb. Amina Albert’s landmark birthday.

Speaking during the outreach, Amb. Amina Albert said the occasion was special to her, not only because it marked her birthday, but was an opportunity to give back to those in need of hope, support, and empowerment.

She said: “It is a joy and a blessing to be here with you today. This day is very special to me, not just because it is my birthday, but because it gives me the opportunity to celebrate life by giving back to those who need hope, support, and a chance to thrive.

“We are donating sewing and grinding machines to enable women to support their children and become self-reliant.”

According to her, the AMA Care and Shelter Initiative is founded on the belief that every individual deserves dignity, stability, and the opportunity to build a better future.

She explained that the outreach targeted over 500 women and children at the Durumi IDP Camp, providing not only basic necessities but also tools, skills, and opportunities capable of transforming lives.

“Humanitarian assistance to disadvantaged persons is important because it restores dignity, empowers individuals, and strengthens communities. When people are deprived of basic needs, their potential remains untapped, and entire communities suffer”, she said.

She added that providing support through skills acquisition, education, and resources creates pathways for self-reliance and helps people break free from cycles of poverty and vulnerability.

Meanwhile, addressing the women at the camp, she (Albert) described them as strong and full of potential, announcing the donation of sewing machines, grinding machines, chillers, barbing kits, and start-up funds to help them establish small businesses and attain economic independence.

“This is my way of saying that your dreams matter, and you have the power to turn them into reality.

“This initiative is about more than giving; it is about building hope, restoring dignity, and creating lasting change. When we invest in the most vulnerable, we are investing in the future of our communities and our nation”, she stated.

The Women Leader of the Durumi Area 1 IDP Camp, Mrs. Laitu Ayuba, who is also the coordinator of women leaders across the 18 IDP camps in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed gratitude for the initiative.

According to Ayuba, the Durumi camp has existed for nearly 15 years, adding that she had never witnessed such a comprehensive and practical empowerment programme.

“I have never seen this kind of programme since 2022. This one is practical and real. You can see the beneficiaries and the impact. She brought sanitation, equipment, stability, and hope to our lives”, she said.

She prayed for Amb. Albert, expressing belief that her humanitarian efforts would attract divine blessings.

“God will not leave her behind. Our women are dancing and smiling today. All the pains we have experienced, we forgot them today because of what she has done for us”, she added.
