The premiere of Friends Indeed on Sunday, February 1, at Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos, offered more than a glamorous red carpet—it reignited conversations on the essence of friendship in contemporary society.

Industry stakeholders, creatives, and film enthusiasts gathered to reflect on loyalty, responsibility, and authenticity in relationships.

Speaking at the event, producer Sandra Bremaud said the film was inspired by the need to confront uncomfortable truths people often ignore in their relationships. “I think it’s time we start talking about things that people risk. It’s time to show it on the big screen. Friendship needs to be brought back to life the way it used to be, but first, we need to see how we are as friends,” she said.

Bremaud emphasized self-reflection as a key element of the story. “By the time friends see how they are, they will see themselves. That can inspire healing and make you want to be a better friend. We are losing the essence of friendship, and this movie can help restore it,” she added.

She also highlighted personal accountability in friendships. “People talk about fake friendship a lot, but who is the fake friend? It starts from you. Instead of criticising, try to do something that can create change. That’s why I made this film,” Bremaud said.

Director Richard Omos-Iboyi praised the script for its emotional depth and realism. “When I got the script, I knew friendship can be funny and good at the same time… These are the realities we are putting out there,” he said, noting that the script informed his casting choices.

Cast member Venita Akpofure, who plays Edwina, described the film as a feel-good project with a strong underlying message, promoting friendships built on integrity and collaboration.

Friends Indeed will hit cinemas nationwide from February 6. The film stars Lilian Esoro, Venita Akpofure, Padita Agu, MC Lively, Ifeanyi Kalu, Akin Lewis, Oma Iyasara, among others. Attendees at the premiere included Eucharia Anunobi, Susan Peters, Puffy Tee, and Yaw, making it a star-studded celebration of friendship and cinema.
