The lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, kafilat Ogbara, has announced plans to empower 1000 constituents in Lagos State.
Speaking at a press briefing to announce the Kosofe Mega Empowerment, Ogbara said she is taking deliberate action to empower the people and strengthen communities.
According to her, this empowerment initiative scheduled for Sunday, January 25, is thoughtfully designed to support youths, women, artisans, traders and small business owners by providing tools, opportunities and resources that will strengthen livelihoods and drive growth across Kosofe Federal Constituency.
She said the empowerment is not a routine exercise of sharing items.
She said: “A lot of us will recall that about a year ago, I sponsored some of our artisans, mechanics, all the way to Abeokuta to go and learn how to be trained in CNG conversion so that they are compliant with what mechanical activity is in the future.
“A lot of these mechanics will be empowered with the tools for them to work on their own to convert vehicles to CNG. Also, we had some of our young ladies that were trained to be professional makeup artists. So, all these people will be empowered.
“We also had a lot of our artisans. We remember when we brought Bosch, one of the best tool makers in the world. They came to Kosofe to train a lot of our artisans. Some of these artisans will be going away with Bosch tools. All those initiatives that we took then to train them, they were not just for content creation.
“They were deliberate actions, deliberate intentions to empower people. And they were definitely designed for a day like this, for January 25. A lot of our constituents will be empowered in different areas.
“Even those that were not trained, we have sent out the forms physically. And a lot of people have also filled the forms online. Those that have filled physically or online, it was meant for us to profile them as individuals.
“Look at what they do, their age, their status economically, and their experiences. So that we can, from the profiling, be able to ascertain the appropriate type of empowerment for them. And this is why I have said that this exercise is not a routine exercise of sharing items that you normally see.”
According to Ogbara, the empowerment is a deliberate intervention aimed at long-term impacts.
She said the programme specifically focuses on empowering individuals who have already undergone prior skills training in different skills and those that deserve to be empowered, low income earners and vulnerable constituents in Kosofe Federal Constituency.
“By equipping these trained beneficiaries with the right tools and supports, we are ensuring that skills translate into income generation and renewed prosperity. And this is what we had in the speech of Mr. President about shared prosperity of the budget for 2026.
“So, all that we are doing are in line with the vision of Mr. President and the vision of the federal government. I want to say congratulations in advance to all the beneficiaries of this empowerment programme.
“This is our way of supporting your hard work and encouraging you to keep aiming for more. This initiative comes from a simple belief that when we empower our people, we strengthen our homes, our streets, our communities, and of course the nation at large. I encourage all my constituents to come out, participate, and take full advantage of this opportunity.
“And for those who may not be privileged to benefit from this mega empowerment because we are going to be empowering close to a thousand constituents, I want to assure you that as long as I remain in the House of Representatives, this exercise is a continuous exercise and we will surely get to you,” she said.
