Post Insurgency: Why Buni constructs multi-billion Ultra Modern Markets in 9 LGAs

The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture in Yobe state, Hon. Abdullahi Bego has revealed that Governor Mai Mala Buni injected billions of naira for the construction of Ultra Modern and Modern Markets across nine (9) local government areas strategically to enhance the economic potentials of the people that hitherto suffered for over decade Boko Haram atrocities.

Bego flanked by his counterpart, the Commissioner of Housing, Architect Ahmed Buba Kyari disclosed this on Monday in Kanamma town, the Council headquarters of Yunusari.

The Duo hosted some Journalists for a projects tour which cut across Trade and Investment, Education, roads and drainages, Health, Agriculture among other sectors executed by Governor Buni in the last seven years.

Briefing Journalists at one of the newly constructed Modern Market in Kannama, the birth-place of late former leader of Boko Haram Sect, Mohammed Yusuf, the Information Commissioner said :”We are all aware of the devastating effect perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists which have affected means of livelihoods in the last 16 years.

“Fortunately, now that peace has returned, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni deem it fit to put smile on the faces of our traumatized people by constructing Five Ultra Modern and four Modern Markets across devastated communities in the state. This initiative aims to restore hope for the common man and make people economically self-reliant during the post insurgency period”. Bego stated.

Giving further details on the newly constructed Markets, Commissioner of Housing, Hon. Kyari said, “Five of the Ultra Modern Markets are located in Damaturu, Nguru, Potiskum and Gashua and fully completed, each consist of 505 shops of different sizes, inner structures of administrative block, mosque, refuse bank, Banking Hall, perimeter fence, electricity, boreholes, drainage and road.

“They are also equipped with Police Outpost, Administration Block, Banking Hall and Fire Service, while that in Gaidam is about to be completed.

“The other four newly constructed Modern Markets with each has 98 shops, 156 stalls and 48 warehouses/stores. They are also fully equipped with other facilities such as Police Outposts, Fire Sevice, Admin Blocks and Banking Halls, are located here in Kannama/Yunusari, Machina, Ngalda and Buni Yadi”. Kyari explained.

He noted that, these gesture were inline with Governor Buni’s campaign promises towards restoration of peace, revitalization of the economy, alleviate poverty and improve livelihood.

Speaking on behalf of Yunusari beneficiaries, a Community Leader, Mallam Baba Goni lauded Governor Buni for his transformative initiatives in revamping the economy of the citizenry, despite destructions carried out by insurgents.

He pledged their unflinching support to the present administration, as well as take ownership in maintaining and sustaining all projects executed for the betterment of mankind or humanity in their communities.

The media team which is billed to visit Ngalda and Buni Yadi on Tuesday 13th January, 2026 for inspection of similar projects, also inspected the executed Machina Modern Market ready for commissioning, the ongoing construction of about 25KMs Gashua-Masaba road which linked 14 communities by the Buni led administration, among other people oriented projects in the state.
