WESCOSA nat’l secretary hands over after decade of service in Ibadan

The National Secretary of the Wesley College Old Students Association (WESCOSA), Dr. Joshua Okediji, has formally handed over his responsibilities after completing his tenure, bringing to a close more than a decade of service to the association.

The handover ceremony was held on November 8, 2025, at the Pensioner’s Hall, Onireke, Ibadan, where members of the association gathered to review his stewardship and contributions to the growth of WESCOSA.

Speaking in his handover note, Dr. Okediji expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve, describing his journey as one marked by dedication and commitment to unity among old students.

“Glory, honour and adoration be to God Almighty for the grace and enablement granted unto me to serve Wesley College Old Students Association as the National Scribe,” he said.

Dr. Okediji recalled that his journey began about 10 years ago when he served as Assistant Secretary General, working closely with the late Pastor Elijah Fatokun.

“I commenced this journey as the Assistant Secretary General, providing secretarial support to the national secretariat and my departed predecessor, Late Pastor Elijah Fatokun, now of blessed memory,” he stated.

He explained that his role went beyond routine administrative duties, as he deliberately reached out to alumni across generations to build a stronger national body.

“Being a proactive administrator, my duties were not limited to writing minutes of meetings. I practically engaged more than 35 different class sets with the gospel of creating a unified and vibrant WESCOSA national body,” Dr. Okediji said.

Highlighting some of his key achievements, he pointed to the creation of digital platforms aimed at improving communication and participation within the association.

“Under my watch, I created the WESCOSA National WhatsApp platform, which today has over 380 participants to bring about an interface of all generations,” he said.

He added, “We also established the Current Affairs platform for hardcore news, political analysis, sports and global happenings, as well as the Representative Council WhatsApp platform to strengthen coordination among leaders.”

Dr. Okediji also spoke about his appointment to the Governing Council Board of Wesley College of Science, Ibadan, following a policy decision by the Oyo State Government in 2019.

“In 2019, the Oyo State Government under the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi deemed it fit to appoint governing council boards for public secondary schools to facilitate infrastructural development,” he said.

According to him, the WESCOSA executive nominated three members for the position, from which he was selected by the Ministry of Education.

“Out of the three nominees forwarded by the WESCOSA executives, I was selected due to my versatility and regular input for the development of our alma mater, Wesley College Ibadan,” he explained.

He further disclosed that his appointment was later renewed by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde after a review of school governing councils.

“On the honour of excellent stewardship, the succeeding government of Governor Seyi Makinde requested that the Governing Council Board of Wesley College of Science, Ibadan, be re-appointed, while some others were dissolved due to inefficiency or internal tussles,” Dr. Okediji said.

Members of the association at the ceremony praised his service and commitment, describing his tenure as one that strengthened unity, communication and institutional engagement within WESCOSA.
