NUJ Enugu to induct Ugwuanyi into Hall of Fame

The Enugu State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced the induction of former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, into its Hall of Fame.

Governor Ugwuanyi, who served two terms from 2015 to 2023, is being recognized for his significant contributions to the welfare of journalists in the state. His achievements include the rehabilitation of the press centre, donation of a bus to the Correspondents’ Chapel, sponsorship of journalists for a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and construction of the NUJ Secretariat in Nsukka.

According to a statement from the Council Chairman, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, this year’s Press Week celebration will hold on December 4, 2025, at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, under the theme: “National Unity and Good Governance: The Role of the Media.”

“NUJ will honour former Governor Ugwuanyi for his remarkable contributions to the union and its members during and after his eight years in office,” Ogbuka stated.

The event will feature a lecture delivered by the President of the Nigerian Senate, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, while former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Chief Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu, will serve as Chairman of the occasion. The Special Guest of Honour will be the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and the Chief Host will be the current Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

NUJ Press Week is an annual event where journalists reflect on the performance of public officials and review the Union’s activities over the year. The release noted that other distinguished Nigerians who have excelled in various fields will also be honoured.

The NUJ Enugu State Council has extended a cordial invitation to the public to attend the event.
