Augustine Ekechi, a seasoned Nigerian engineer and sustainability energy expert, is driving innovation and industrial growth through groundbreaking renewable energy solutions that are reshaping Africa’s clean energy sector.

He disclosed this in statement recently, sharing how he is driving local content development, fostering global partnerships, and positioning Africa as a key player in the transition toward sustainable energy solutions.

Ekechi’s career in the energy industry began with a strong motivation to find local solutions to Africa’s most pressing challenge balancing energy access with environmental responsibility.

“Africa’s growth depends on how well we can utilize our natural resources sustainably while participating in the global shift toward cleaner energy,” he noted in his statement.
At the heart of his achievements is an impressive biodiesel plant design that converts locally sourced melon seeds into sustainable fuel.

The facility, which is engineered to produce 100,000 metric tons annually, yields ASTM/EN-compliant biodiesel that is biodegradable, non-toxic, and compatible with existing diesel engines.

This innovation underscores the economic potential of domestic biofeedstock and demonstrates how renewable energy can be locally driven while aligning with global decarbonization targets.

In the statement, Ekechi’s research on gas-turbine performance optimization using MATLAB modeling, which attracted recognition among international energy scholars.
By analyzing operational data from the 25 MW Transcorp Power Plant, his model identifies key efficiency parameters—ambient temperature, humidity, and compressor ratio that influence energy output and fuel economy.

The research, he explained, “provides practical insights that can help operators make data-informed decisions, reduce fuel waste, and improve plant reliability.”

In his current capacity as Technical Director at Borax Energy Services Limited, Ekechi continues to push the boundaries of local innovation.

He has led initiatives to develop locally formulated drilling muds and surfactants critical materials in oilfield operations thereby reducing dependence on imported chemicals and reinforcing the objectives of Nigeria’s Local Content Act.
As the founder of ValueMax Pearl, an import-export enterprise connecting African and global energy markets, he continues to champion collaboration and cross-border innovation.

A graduate of Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he earned an MBA in International Business, and a recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Business Management, Ekechi exemplifies the modern African engineer who merges technical expertise with strategic business insight.

Speaking on the challenges facing Africa’s energy transition, he emphasized the need for stronger investment in research, capacity building, and technology adaptation.
Ekechi’s current focus is on fostering renewable-energy partnerships between Africa and the United States, aligning with the mission of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
Through this initiative, he aims to strengthen Africa’s participation in global clean energy trade and knowledge exchange.
