BENIN—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State yesterday called on the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, to investigate what he described as the alleged attempt on his life, saying the comments made by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state on the accident that led to the death of three journalists were suspicious.

Oshiomhole, who made the call during the May Day celebration which held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, said:  “ I read in the papers where the chairman of PDP in the state, Dan Orbih, said they should ask me if I had a driver’s licence and my state while driving. This shows that they have something to explain in that accident.

“They arranged their own accident in Afuze few days ago. They thought I would be in my regular vehicle. I’ve never killed anybody so nobody born of a man can kill me. I conquered fear at the age of 17. They let a 911 truck which was carrying nothing loose on my convoy. I’m sad that we lost many lives and spilled much blood but they did not get their target.

“While we were still bringing the people out of the vehicle, the PDP brought out a curious statement condoling people. May God condole them. I asked the motor boy, where were you going, he said the driver only said he should come without disclosing their mission. The PDP said why should I go to Church on Sunday for thanksgiving. Did they expect me to go and worship at the shrine?”
