WARRI – THE people of Orubu community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have threatened to halt Chevron Nigeria Limited’s operations, both on-shore and off-shore, over allegation of continued neglect of the community for years.

The community, said to have been partitioned by Chevron into “Block A” in its area of operation, expressed regret that the recognition accorded them exists only on paper as there was nothing on ground to show for it.

The community, in a statement in Warri by Prince Clem Omotoye, Chairman and Pastor Godfrey Mene, Secretary, claimed that Chevron had not deemed it fit to grant indigenes of the community any scholarship award, contract or job placement.

They said they had written several letters to Chevron and had drawn the attention of the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, to their plight but nothing has been done so far.

They maintained that although they did not believe in militancy, they “will not hesitate to halt Chevron’s operations both in Warri office and Offshore,” cautioning that their peaceful nature must not be taken for granted.

They appealed to security agencies and relevant authorities to call Chevron to order by making them grant the community their due rights and privileges or face the their wrath.
