In the ever-evolving world of African cinema, one name gradually making waves is Chukwuma Alex Mbachu, a driven, passionate storyteller whose journey into Nollywood reflects grit, creativity, and a strong vision for global impact.
As the founder of Nexuwave Production Limited, based in Lekki, Lagos, Alex is among the new generation of producers redefining what Nigerian film can look and feel like on a global stage.
A native of Umuncheke Umuobom in Ideato South LGA of Imo State, Alex grew up as the first son in a family of six, where hard work and humility were instilled early. With a background in computer engineering from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, he possesses both the technical prowess and the creative instincts that uniquely position him in the industry.
“Technology sharpened my thinking, but film gave me freedom,” he says. “Now I use both to tell stories that travel.”
Though relatively new to film production, with just over a year of hands-on experience, Alex has already carved a space for himself through key collaborations, notably with Tamba Entertainment and actress Munachi Abi.
His upcoming films, Noah’s Book and Good Woman, are set for release in September 2025 and showcase his knack for blending emotional storytelling with high production value.
“I want to produce films that make people feel something,” he says. “My goal is to tell real stories that spark conversations, stories that are both deeply African and universally human.”
Beyond the movie set, Alex’s journey has taken him across the globe. He’s traveled to Paris, Berlin, Madrid, St. Moritz, Amsterdam, Monaco, Cape Town, Malta, Ghana, and more experiences that have broadened his worldview and artistic perspective. “I’ve seen how storytelling connects people, no matter the country,” he notes. “That’s the power of film.”
Before his move into the creative space, Alex demonstrated his entrepreneurial chops by winning “Best Marketer” in 2019 while working with a BUA Cement depot in Owerri.
This experience sharpened his approach to promotion and branding, skills he now applies in his film projects.
Despite facing the challenges of breaking into an industry driven by connections, he has stayed grounded. “The film industry is relationship-driven,” he explains. “Without a network, it’s hard to secure talent, crew, or distribution. But consistency, humility, and involving God has kept me going.”
With an estimated net worth of $2 million, Alex is building more than just a career, he’s building a legacy. His personal motto, “Create with purpose. The vision is free, so try and make it count,” captures both his artistic and entrepreneurial spirit.
To aspiring creatives, he offers this advice: “Be humble. Be resilient. Keep showing up, even when it’s hard. And never forget to put God first.”
As he prepares for the world to see his latest works, one thing is clear: Chukwuma Alex Mbachu is not just producing movies, he’s producing meaning.
