As part of efforts to align with Rotary International’s Global commitment to service, the Rotary Club of Lagos Palm Grove Estate, District 9111 recently donated medical and support equipment to the Sick Bay of Estate Grammar School, Ilupeju and commissioned 28 fully renovated toilet facilities at Ilupeju Senior Grammar School, Lagos.

The projects were funded through a Rotary District Grant, as part of the Club’s broader commitment to sustainable community development and improved educational environments and to reinforce the organization’s focus on Basic Education and Literacy and Disease Prevention and Treatment.
The medical items donated include blood pressure monitor, bed space divider, 4ft x 4ft whiteboard, First Aid box, 18-inch Ox Fan, Dustbin, Drip Stand and Branded Bed sheets. The Rotary District Grant is part of the Club’s broader commitment to sustainable community development and improved educational environments.
Speaking on the reason for the donation, President of the Club, Ms. Omoye Evbota, disclosed that they are symbols of the club’s enduring commitment to creating healthier, more supportive learning environments for our children.
“This project, executed through the support of a Rotary District Grant, stands as a proud testament to Rotary’s unwavering commitment to two of our key Areas of Basic Education and Literacy, and Disease Prevention and Treatment.
“At its heart, this donation serves a vital purpose to strengthen the health and wellness facilities within the school, ensuring that both students and staff have timely access to a safe, functional, and fully equipped sick bay. More than that, it reinforces our conviction that a clean, secure, and well-resourced learning environment is not a privilege; it is a fundamental necessity for academic success and student well-being.
“We believe that a well-equipped sick bay contributes to students’ wellbeing, reduces disruption to learning, and even saves lives in critical moments.
“The Rotary Club of Lagos Palm Grove Estate reaffirmed its commitment to continued community engagement, concluding the commissioning as a call to action for deeper service and sustained impact and committed to delivering projects that transform lives and communities, in line with Rotary International’s vision of Service above Self.

“This impactful initiative addresses three Rotary Areas of Focus including Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene by ensuring access to clean, safe, and functional toilet facilities. Basic Education and Literacy by enhancing the overall school environment to foster better learning and Disease Prevention and Treatment by promoting hygiene to reduce the spread of illness and improve student health.
“We believe every child deserves to learn in dignity. “These renovated facilities are a statement that infrastructure should never be a barrier to education. With new plumbing, doors, tiles, painting, and drainage systems, this project offers a safer and more comfortable learning space for both students and staff.
“Today’s commissioning is not the end. “It is a call to continue doing more, for our students, our schools, and our society. Together, we can create sustainable impact and shape a brighter future.”
“In the 2024–2025 Rotary Year, the Club successfully delivered projects aligned with all seven Rotary Areas of Focus, including Peace building and Conflict Prevention, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Community Economic Development, Supporting the Environment.
“Highlights of the 2024–2025 service year include: Disease Prevention and Treatment, Two major Cataract Eye Surgery missions, restoring sight to over 1,650 patients, Four community health camps offering free screenings and treatments, Three blood donation drives promoting voluntary blood donation, Maternal and Child Health, Distribution of birthing kits, mosquito nets, and baby diapers to expectant mothers in underserved areas, Basic Education and Literacy, Back-to-School leadership programs to inspire young minds, Donation of essential medical and educational equipment to schools among others.
“We hope that these resources will serve the students and staff well offering timely support during minor health concerns or emergencies. A properly equipped sick bay reduces disruptions to learning, provides comfort, and in critical moments, can even save lives.
“Education remains one of the most powerful tools for unlocking potential both for individuals and for communities. By improving the health and learning environment here, we aim to enhance focus, encourage motivation, and support stronger academic outcomes. This effort reflects Rotary’s enduring mission to promote sustainable education and empower the next generation of leaders.
“As we formally hand over these items, we urge the school community to take ownership and ensure their proper care. These resources are not just for today’s students, but for generations to come. With thoughtful maintenance and responsible use, their impact can be long-lasting.
“To the school management and staff we entrust these facilities to your stewardship, confident that you will safeguard them and ensure they serve every student who passes through these halls. And to the students, take pride in your school, respect these resources, and let this gesture be a reminder that you are supported, valued, and capable of greatness.

“In addition to recognizing the significance of infrastructure, the club emphasized ownership and sustainability. The school’s management was entrusted with maintaining the facilities, and students were encouraged to take pride in and care for their environment”, she said.
Evbota however expressed her gratitude to the Rtn. Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, AG Rtn. Ibitonke Ogun, and AG Kole Jagun, Rtns. Onyinye and Jackline Iriogbe for their support. While urging the school management to maintain the donated items responsibly, ensuring they serve both current and future generations. She also encouraged students to take pride in their school and use the resources wisely.
Meanwhile, the District Governor, District 9111, Rotn. Oluwole Kukoyi, noted that the gesture was a partnership which must be supported by all stakeholders. “I am happy with how the club has consistently contributed to the school and development of the students”, he said.
Also, the incoming District Interact Representative, Agbaje Mubarak, expressed his delights and hoped that his tenure would be about impactful development to the students.
The event was witnessed by District Governor, Rtn. Dr. Oluwole Kukoyi, Assistant Governor Rtn. Ibitonke Ogun, school officials, representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the Local Education Authority, and members of the Interact Club of Estate Grammar School, and the incoming District Interact Representative, Agbaje Mubarak as well as the Interact Clubs of Ilupeju Junior and Senior Grammar Schools, and the Head Girl and President of the Interact Club , Oladeinde Esther.
