The Lagos State Government has commenced the integration of the National Identification Number (NIN) into the Lagos State Single Social Register (LASSR), a subset of the National Social Register, to facilitate the Federal Government’s ₦75,000 cash transfer to vulnerable households.

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Ope George, made this known during a statewide press conference on Tuesday, held at Alausa, Ikeja. He explained that the initiative was in response to the economic hardship caused by the collapse of the foreign exchange window, the removal of fuel subsidies, and the proposed rollout of a federal relief grant.

According to George, “The Federal Government, through the Presidential Panel, has directed that households on the National Register must be updated—particularly with NINs and geo-locations. Lagos State has successfully linked the NINs of 130,000 heads of households out of the 688,759 currently on its social register, in preparation for the ₦75,000 cash transfer per household.”

He noted that the NIN integration began on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. The Social Protection Coordinating Department (SPCD) of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget has been overseeing the process, engaging community leaders and conducting grassroots data collection to ensure a smooth and inclusive exercise.

“In just one month, SPCD, with support from the Community-Based Targeting Teams (CBTTs), has updated over 130,000 household heads, linking their NINs with LASSR across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs,” George said.

Data from the Ministry shows that Ikorodu tops the list with 16,418 household heads linked, followed by Alimosho with 14,964, and Mushin with 10,712.

George emphasized that the LASSR currently contains 688,759 household heads and 2,681,507 individual members. This data enables the state to better target vulnerable populations for social interventions.

“This initiative is more than just an update—it’s a transformative step in our commitment to ensuring that no resident is left behind in the delivery of social protection and intervention programs, in line with the THEMES+ Agenda of this administration,” the commissioner stated.

He urged residents to cooperate with field officers by providing their NINs to aid the registration process.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, said the goal is to enhance accuracy, eliminate duplication of names, and ensure that the intervention reaches the intended beneficiaries.
