Building a world-class product design career in age of AI

Building a world-class product design career in age of AI

By Chioma Okoye

In an era defined by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital transformation, the question facing the next generation of creators is not just how to build great products, but how to build meaningful careers while doing so. One Nigerian woman is showing what that path can look like.

Favour Adeniyi is a product designer at Microsoft who is helping shape secure, scalable experiences for enterprise users around the world. At just 24 years old, her work spans enterprise growth strategy, security compliance, and UX experimentation for some of the most widely used platforms in the global cloud ecosystem—Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.

She recently gave a talk at CowryWise, a leading Nigerian fintech platform, where she spoke on the topic “Building a World-Class Product Design Career in the Age of AI.” Her message was rooted not in buzzwords or surface-level tips, but in a deep understanding of how product designers today must combine intuition, experimentation, and trust-building across increasingly complex digital systems.

“What makes a product designer world-class today isn’t just your eye for clean visuals,” she shared with the audience. “It’s your ability to solve business problems, earn user trust, and think like a systems builder, especially in the age of AI where human-centered thinking is more important, not less.”

Her journey began in Jos, Nigeria, before she moved to the United States to study Computer Science. While in school, she discovered product design, a discipline that allowed her to merge her love for creativity with her analytical mind. Today, she works within Microsoft’s Cloud + AI division, contributing to the company’s secure onboarding strategy and global user growth initiatives.

Her design work includes creating cloud acquisition flows that prevent fraud, reduce user drop-off, and ensure that enterprise accounts are secure by default. These are high-stakes environments, where design decisions affect billions in revenue and the safety of sensitive business data.

As AI transforms the landscape of digital products, Adeniyi believes that designers have a new responsibility: to make increasingly intelligent systems more understandable, more inclusive, and more human.

“AI is not replacing design, it’s reshaping it,” she explains. “The designers who will thrive are those who learn how to collaborate with data, strategy, and ethics all at once.”

In addition to her professional work, Adeniyi has become a mentor and speaker on topics like inclusive design, digital trust, and career growth. Her mission is to help more young Nigerians, especially women, see themselves not just as participants in tech, but as leaders of it.

For many, the CowryWise talk was more than a career session, it was a moment of inspiration and challenge. It reminded the audience that world-class design isn’t confined to Silicon Valley or Seattle, it can be shaped by those who’ve walked paths from Jos to Microsoft.

As the global design community grapples with the implications of artificial intelligence, Favour Adeniyi stands as an example of how thoughtful, secure, and scalable design can still be led by purpose, and still be led by people.
