Award-winning filmmaker and actress Mojisola Adebanjo has announced the release of her latest film, Ojo (Coward)—a gripping, emotional drama that explores the complexities of marriage and the silent suffering that often occurs behind closed doors.
Set against the backdrop of a troubled marriage, Ojo (which translates to Coward in English) delves into the harsh realities of toxic relationships, emotional manipulation, and the courage it takes to walk away. For Adebanjo, the film is more than entertainment—it’s a mission.
“Yes, Ojo (Coward) is a movie about marriage, but it’s more than that. It’s a story that highlights the harsh realities of toxic relationships and the importance of recognizing the signs of abuse,” says Adebanjo. “I made this movie for all the women out there who may be going through similar struggles.”
Adebanjo hopes that Ojo (Coward) resonates deeply with both women and men, sparking conversations about emotional well-being and mutual respect in relationships.
“My message is simple: no one deserves to be maltreated or abused in any way,” she continues. “If you’re in a relationship that’s becoming toxic, to the point of physical or emotional abuse, it’s time to walk away. You deserve to be pampered, loved, and respected. Every woman is a queen, and every individual deserves dignity and kindness.”
Beyond female audiences, Adebanjo believes the film offers a vital lesson for men as well. “I hope women will see themselves in the story and realize they’re not alone,” she says. “For men, I hope this film serves as a reminder to treat their partners with empathy, understanding, and respect. Every individual is unique, and we shouldn’t judge or behave based on past experiences or what we’ve seen others do.”
