WFE empowers Ikorodu market women

IKORODU Market, Lagos, came alive with excitement as it hosted the April edition of WaBiaZo Female Entrepreneurs (WFE), an empowerment initiative that boosts business growth among female traders, promotes culture, and celebrates exemplary community leadership in an atmosphere of entertainment.

Moderated by WFE Leader, Omolara Alagbala, the April event brought together the market’s female traders, culture advocates, and community leaders for a dynamic empowerment gathering.

Sharing the April experience, Alagbala stated, “The meeting reaffirmed the group’s mission to empower African women through entrepreneurship while preserving cultural identity both locally and in the diaspora.

“During the session, members were introduced to a proposal aimed at enhancing WaBiaZo’s support structures for female entrepreneurs. Discussions included whether the proposal should be distributed digitally or in person and how it aligns with WFE’s current programmes, including its commitment to business giveaways, funding support, and culturally-rooted development.

“WFE continues to transform markets into ecosystems of empowerment where business, cultural pride, and women-led change thrive. Boldly echoed in its slogan, ‘From Market to Global Impact’, the movement proves that the daily hustle of African women is a powerful engine for economic and cultural transformation.”

To strengthen continuity and momentum, it was announced that WFE meetings will now be held on the last Saturday of every month, creating consistent opportunities for women to collaborate, support one another and grow together.

The WFE initiative enjoys global support from sponsors including Huked, a UK-based natural skincare brand blending African herbal wisdom with modern wellness science and Eatsome, dedicated to delivering authentic African flavours and ingredients globally.

Other supporters include Ceeyah, a wellness and herbal supplement brand inspired by African healing traditions and WaBiaZo, a culture-first brand focused on celebrating African heritage through community events and creative enterprise.

The April edition also specially acknowledged Uchechi Osuchukwu for her outstanding contributions to the growth of WFE, including her leadership in expanding its reach, strengthening support for market women and championing female entrepreneurship across Nigeria and beyond.

Participants were thrilled to learn that Bolaji Bello, music artist and brand ambassador for Huked, will be composing the official WFE anthem, a tribute to the resilience and beauty of African women.
