As part of activities to commemorate the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD), a community-based humanitarian initiative, Family Rebuilders Outreach, has empowered women in the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) , particularly those in petty trade with cash, food items and other materials.
The humanitarian gesture was part of a Market Outreach organised by Family Rebuilders, led by its convener, Beatrice Anachuna, at Garki International Market on Monday.
In her address, Anachuna said the gesture was part of the organisation’s effort to empower women through welfare support, family counseling, and economic upliftment, adding that the organisation was committed to strengthening families and ensuring their well-being.
According to her, Family Rebuilders Outreach seeks to support the wholeness and welfare of families, promotes access to family planning, medical care, and potable water and reconciles disintegrated families through godly counseling.
She added that the organisation was also committed to reaching out to the heartbroken, the offended, the incarcerated, the sick, and victims of natural disasters, and as well promote peace and harmony in families through conferences, talks, workshops, and targeted events.
While speaking with newsmen on the sideline, Anachuna highlighted the importance of empowering women in local markets in their daily struggles to sustain their families amidst the prevailing economic challenges.
She stressed that initiatives like the outreach was a major solace to many struggling women and should be sustained through volunteering support.
Items received by the teeming market women include wrappers, food items, drinks, and freshly cooked meals, among others materials.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen on the sideline, lauded the intervention, describing it as a beacon of hope in the midst of economic challenges they were going through.
Mrs. Melody Achanwa said: “I started my petty trade with little capital, and with the help of initiatives like this, I have been able to expand my business, feed my children, and pay their school fees.”
Similarly, Ngozi Chukwu spoke on how the outreach has impacted her life, adding that “This organisation has not only provided us with material support but has also given us emotional and moral encouragement. It is a blessing to women like us.”
