D.M.G.S old students honor first principal at 70th anniversary awards gala

The First Principal of Doherty Memorial Grammar School, Ijero Ekiti, Chief Gabriel Olu Fagbeyiro, was honored among other prominent figures including the royal father of the town, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole, the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti Kingdom, as part of activities marking the school’s 70th Anniversary and Founder’s Day weekend.

The week long activities was rounded off Sunday with a Thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral Anglican Church in Ijero town .

Receiving the posthumous award on behalf of his late father, who was a renowned educationist and astute administrator of repute, Dr. Odunayo Fagbeyiro, an Akure based medical practitioner extolled the virtues of the inaugural principal of D.M.G.S., for laying the foundation

that has produced a galaxy of well accomplished professionals both home and abroad.

Among those recognized for their selfless service and contributions to the upliftment of the legacy of the school were Grand Patrons, Patrons and Board of Trustees members including General Kayode Oni (rtd), Senator Fatimat Raji Rasaki and the Global President of D.M.G.S. Old Students Association, Dr. Abiodun Arokodare.

Also, old students who contributed to the success of the weeklong celebration of the school’s 70th Anniversary received deserving awards, among whom were Barrister Kolade Otoki , Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee; Mr. Oni Williams Olu, Vice President and LOC Chairman; Mr. Taye Ige, Chairman Publicity and Promotion Committee and host of other awardees.

Outstanding teachers, students and the current principal, Mr. Adebayo Fakiyesi, were also recognised .

To thank God for the successful 70th Anniversary celebration, the old students of the school throng the Cathedral Anglican Church in Ijero town Sunday morning for a Thanksgiving Service.

Dressed in white attires and green gears and caps to match with customized mufflers, the Old Students Association led by the Global President, Dr. Abiodun Arokodare, were full of gratitude to God Almighty for making all the activities marking the school’s 70th Anniversary in the past one week a grand success and milestone of accomplishments worthy of celebration and giving thanks to the Grand Creator.

In a special sermon at the Thanksgiving Service, Rev. Canon. Dr. Dayo Oloruntola harped on the need for parents to train their children with the right mental upbringing and divine regulations in line with the holy scriptures so that the children will become prosperous in future as exemplified by the Old Students of Doherty Memorial Grammar School.

Taking the congregation down memory lane, the Bishop of Ekiti West Diocese, Rt. Rev. Cornelius Adagbada, who is also an old student of the school, eulogized D.M.G.S. as a citadel of knowledge in academics, character, sports and other human endeavours.
