ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered an additional ten stolen manhole covers, bringing the total number of recovered covers to 125 within the past week.
In a statement, the command highlighted its ongoing efforts to combat the theft of critical government infrastructure.
The latest recovery, made on February 4, 2025, was the result of intelligence-led operations in the Dei-Dei area, where officers discovered the stolen items concealed in a pit. The breakthrough was attributed to a tip-off from a vigilant informant, underscoring the importance of public cooperation in crime-fighting efforts.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, issued a stern warning to vandals and their accomplices involved in the illegal trade of public property.
“We will not relent in our search for stolen public assets. Our operatives are intensifying efforts to locate and dismantle illegal warehouses and storage sites where vandals may be stockpiling stolen infrastructure. The FCT must be free from the grip of these criminal elements,” CP Disu stated.
This operation follows a significant breakthrough last week when the Command, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF) established by the FCT Minister, intercepted and recovered vandalized public infrastructure.
CP Disu commended residents for their continued support and urged them to remain vigilant. He emphasized that protecting public assets is a shared responsibility essential for maintaining a safe and functional environment.
