Ogun State is setting the stage for a transformative era of development with the establishment of the Gateway International Airport and its surrounding Aerotropolis.
Spearheaded by Governor Dapo Abiodun, this ambitious project aims to position the state as a global aviation hub while boosting its socio-economic growth. Strategically located near major road networks, the airport offers seamless connectivity to key cities like Lagos, Abeokuta, and Ibadan, making it a vital asset for regional and international commerce.
The Aerotropolis, designed as an airport city, will integrate surface transportation with facilities for cargo processing, storage, training, and logistics. These features are expected to catalyze job creation, enhance exports of agricultural and non-agricultural goods, and drive significant economic activities across the state. Experts have described the project as a game-changer, with its unique capacity to connect multiple modes of transportation and ease congestion at existing airports.
Another key component of this initiative is the Nigeria Customs Training School, a state-of-the-art facility being developed as part of the Aerotropolis. Once operational, it will provide advanced training for customs officers, bolster regional security, and create new employment opportunities.
Private sector stakeholders are also contributing to this wave of development. Real estate companies are investing in residential and commercial estates near the airport, offering modern, eco-friendly living spaces tailored for families, professionals, and investors. These developments are not only enhancing the area’s appeal but also creating opportunities for sustainable investment.
The Aerotropolis is already driving significant interest from businesses and investors, solidifying Ogun State’s reputation as a preferred destination for economic activities. As land values in the area continue to rise, the region is poised to become one of Nigeria’s most vibrant economic hubs, attracting local and international attention.
Ogun State’s bold vision, exemplified by the Gateway International Airport and its Aerotropolis, is redefining the state’s future, creating opportunities for growth, and positioning it as a beacon of progress for Nigeria and beyond.
Rotarian Victor Oyefeso, CEO of Villamond Investment Limited, emphasized that the Customs Training School will be the largest in sub-Saharan Africa, comparable to global standards. Villamond is also actively contributing to the region’s development with projects like the Alafia Garden Estate and the forthcoming Airport View Estate, both strategically located near the airport.
The Airport View Estate, set to launch in January 2025, is a green, eco-friendly residential and commercial community designed to appeal to first-time buyers and real estate investors.
