Four-year-old Nelson Emale urgently needs N5 million for surgery to address a congenital heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF).
Nelson who was diagnosed of TOF at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State, according to a medical report signed by Dr. Angela Odike, a Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist at Samara Heart Foundation.
TOF is a complex heart problem involving four anatomical abnormalities: a ventricular septal defect, narrowing of the pulmonary outflow tract, an overriding aorta, and right ventricular hypertrophy.
He requires critical surgery to improve his oxygen levels and overall health, as his untreated TOF has led lead to severe complications.
Emale’s survival rate is in good stand if surgery can be done in time, unlike other most patients.
However, due to financial constraints, Emale’s parents have been unable to afford the necessary follow-up treatment.
According to Emale’s parents, he has been experiencing endless cry and difficult breathing, known as “tet spells,” due to low blood flow to his lungs.
These signs returned a month ago. Despite being taken to the hospital, Emale was discharged due to a lack of funds for his treatment.
Emale urgently requires surgery at a cardiac centre in Nigeria to repair TOF) and improve blood supply to his lungs.
According to doctors handling his case, he needs an N5 million for medical investigations and surgery, unfortunately, his family cannot afford it.
Consequently, his family is appealing to the general public for assistance to save his life.
