BENIN CITY – A former Edo State governorship aspirant under the Labour Party (LP), Barr. Kenneth Imansuangbon yesterday called on the federal government under President Bola Tinubu to review its conditions for giving national awards to certain individuals urging that people genuinely involved in humanitarian to the needy deserve such recognition and awards.

Imansuangbon stated this at the Home of the Needy in Uhogua, Ovia North East local government area of Edo State which houses over 3000 displaced persons from parts of the north occasioned by the activities of Boko haram. He visited the facility to donate food items and cash, part of which he said were donated by parents of children of his Abuja-based Pace Setters School.

He lamented that some persons with tainted and questionable characters were often recognized thereby diminishing the efforts of those whose selfless humanitarian work have impacted positively on the lives of the downtrodden.

Accompanied by his wife Kate and some principals of his schools and other staff, Imansuangbon donated foods items and other consumables to the facility and urged them not to lose hope but to focus on their education so that they can grow up to be men and women of honour whose impact would be felt in nation building. They were received by the administrator of the facility, Pastor Folorunsho Solomon

He said, “If we have a country where things are done well, Pastor Folunrusho Solomon is due for a national honor and I am calling on President Tinubu that people who are given national honours should be those that deserve it like it is done in America and elsewhere.

“National honours shouldn’t be given to people with tainted or questionable characters or dishonourable people. They should be for those that have impacted lives like Pastor Solomon.

“Nigeria must discover itself under President Tinubu to correct this. He (Solomon) has inspired development for the country so that people will know that when you help the poor you are developing the country.”

He called on the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to come to the aid of the children even as he commended the governor for hitting the ground running. He also called on the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to come to assist the camp.

To his wife, their visit to the camp is to tell the inhabitants that they are loved and there are people out there who care for them.

In his response, Pastor Folorunsho thanked the visitors for their show of love and appealed for further help especially as it relates to helping to engage some of the inmates who are now graduates and are in need of employment.
