The 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has officially passed a vote of confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Senate leadership.

According to Sir Kenny Okolugbo Consultant Communications and Strategy Office of the Senate President, the resolution was reached during a plenary session on Thursday, October 17, 2024, aimed at dispelling rumors of an impending impeachment.

Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, introduced the motion, which was seconded by Senator Aminu Abass from Adamawa Central. Ningi called for unity among Senators, urging them to support the vote of confidence regardless of party affiliations.

This move came in response to recent allegations circulating in the media about a supposed plot by the Northern caucus to unseat Akpabio and his leadership team. Ningi emphasized that these rumors were unfounded, describing them as a breach of privilege that misrepresented the intentions of the Northern caucus.

“I want to clarify that the notion of orchestrating a change in the Senate leadership is entirely false and a figment of the imagination of those spreading this misinformation,” Ningi stated. He encouraged his colleagues to stand firm in their support of Akpabio and the Senate’s leadership.

Following the motion, the Senate unanimously approved the vote of confidence via a voice vote, reinforcing the support for Akpabio’s leadership.

In response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their trust and support. He assured them that this renewed confidence would invigorate their commitment to fulfill their mandate to the Nigerian people.

The resolution marks a significant moment for the Senate, emphasizing unity and stability in its leadership amid the backdrop of political tensions and speculation.
