The former lawmaker representing Kogi Central District in the 10th National Assembly, Senator Sadiku Abubakar Ohere is set to empower youths of Kogi Central Senatorial District through a series of vocational training programmes.

The proposed training, which is scheduled to hold on October 9, 2024, at Afims Hotel, Okene Local Government Area in Kogi State, is in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research.

Speaking about the program on Tuesday with journalists, Senator Ohere said the first batch of the training program will cater for 100 young individuals, equipping them with essential skills in modern soap making, household detergents, and palm oil production techniques.

“Participants will not only gain valuable knowledge but will also be empowered to share these skills within their communities, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.”

Senator Ohere added that each participant will receive a seed money grant of at least 100,000 Naira to support their entrepreneurial endeavors.

He said the capacity-building initiative reflects his commitment to youth empowerment and community development, and also sets a benchmark for future programs aimed at uplifting the people of Kogi State.

“The training will be a pivotal step in equipping the next generation with the skills and resources they need to thrives.”

In a related development, Senator Ohere has demonstrated his commitment to education and community welfare by recently covering the WAEC fees for 100 students and the JAMB fees for over 300 candidates across Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The senator’s contributions to education extend to physical infrastructure, having built classrooms at Lenon Memorial College Ageva and St. Andrew School Okene.

The senator also enhanced community infrastructure through the provision of an electric transformer for Anyoke community, which has been grappling with persistent power outages.

He recently supplied solar lights for various areas, including Adavi Central and Nagazi Uvete Akete-Ohu, as well as drilling boreholes in communities such as Inorere, Idatochi, New Zango, and Oziokutu.

He also completed the construction of Ozuwaya Central Mosque and facilitated borehole drilling in Etahi community.

The senator a while ago assisted 500 market women across three major markets in Kogi Central Senatorial District, and has distributed sewing machines in Okene market.
