The Leader of the Igbo community in Lagos, Chief Christian Nwachukwu, has kicked off the mobilisation of the Igbo towards re-election of Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State.

In line with this, the Igbo leader has embarked on a tour of local government areas in the state to sensitise the people on the need to unite and work for the return of Governor Fashola in 2011.

Speaking during a visit to the chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Sulaimon Akeem, Nwachukwu reiterated the need for all Lagosians, especially the Igbo community to prepare for massive support of the state governor as 2011 polls draw near.

He told Akeem that the Igbo community had been united under his leadership, adding that a renegade faction which took the state government to court over the ban on Ezendigbo title had withdrawn their suite having realised their mistake.

He said Fashola had endeared himself to the heart of the people with the rapid development of the state under his administration.

According to Nwachukwu, “We don’t want to leave anything to chances. We are mobilising the Igbo community for the re-election of Governor Fashola because we believe he has performed more than any governor today in Nigeria and even his colleagues admit that.”

Responding, the Bariga LCDA chairman thanked the Igbo leader for the visit, promising to work in unity with all communities to achieve peace and progress in the state.
