Abuja – A 20-year-old applicant, Hamza Abdullahi, was on Wednesday sentenced to one-year imprisonment by a Karu Senior Magistrates’ Court for theft and criminal trespass.

The convict of Kugbo village, Nyanya, Abuja, was arraigned before the court for stealing some plastic chairs valued at N27, 000.

The Senior Magistrate, Chinyere Nwacheonwu, sentenced him to one-year imprisonment with an option of N5, 000 fine.

She said the convict should also pay a compensation of N8, 500 to the complainant.

The Police Prosecutor, Silas Nanpan, had told the court that the case was reported to the police by Pastor Sywkinus Williams, of Universal Pentecostal Church Phase 1 Nyanya, Abuja, on Feb. 11.

Nanpan said that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s Church, and stole 16 plastic chairs.

The prosecutor said that during investigation, nine plastic chairs were recovered from the convict.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
