Bayelsa: CPC accuses INEC of insincerity

By Samuel Oyadongha
Yenagoa— Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, gubernatorial candidate for next Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State, Mr. Famous Daunemighan, yesterday, lamented that Bayelsans have not had the opportunity of electing the governors of their choice due to the alleged foisting of governors on the people.

Daunemighan in a chat with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Yenagoa, charged the Attahiru Jega- led Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to allow the will of the people prevail in next Saturday’s election while urging Bayelsans to protect their votes.

He said: “The future and integrity of INEC lies with its handling of the Bayelsa poll.

“Bayelsans have never had the opportunity of electing their governors. It was always imposition with the connivance of INEC personnel and this must stop, if we are to move forward as a state.”

The CPC governorship candidate, who promised to run a people oriented government if elected, said he entered into the race because of his determination to stem the dwindling fortunes of the state.

“I am fighting this fight for the common man on the streets of Yenagoa and not for myself,” he said and called on the electorate to desist from voting parties, but candidates as the era of voting for parties was over.

He promised to tackle the problem of cultism in the state, which he blamed on the political class, saying his administration would meaningfully engage the youths by coming up with state amnesty programme and not allow cult groups to take over the state.

A CPC government, he said, would provide compulsory free education to all Bayelsans from primary to secondary school levels to encourage learning as well as float a revolving loan scheme for community base fishermen to encourage fishing activities.
