ABUJA – In a compelling move towards gender equality and the empowerment of women, renowned broadcast journalist with Africa Independent Television (AIT) and gender activist Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack has taken a significant step.

She has voiced a powerful call to action for Nigerian politicians and state actors to eradicate all forms of stereotyping and negative gender identities against women.

Adaora made her impassioned plea during the unveiling of her new book, “Politics, X & Power,” in Abuja.

Her work is a profound exploration into the interconnected challenges women face within the realms of politics and power.

The event was not just a book launch but a clarion call for social change.

Adaora, in her address, stated, “My book is an unbundling of the intricate work, study, and heartfelt narrative on the essence of our nationhood and those within it.”

She emphasized the book’s purpose: “It’s about building a Nigeria where every individual is an active stakeholder and where equal opportunities are truly equal.”

Reflecting on her own political journey, she recounted her experience when she ran to represent Okigwe Federal Constituency of Imo State.

“I ventured into politics to bridge the gap between leadership and the led, but I found myself in the murky waters of politics,” she said, highlighting the barriers she faced and the stereotypes that often discourage women from participating in governance.

Adaora’s narrative is one of courage and resilience, urging a collective effort to build a more inclusive and equitable Nigeria for all.

She explained, “I wrote this book out of my deep concern for the shrinking spaces for women’s participation and the looming resignation.”

According to her, the book’s intent to challenge and transform the distorted and negative gender identities that have been long perpetuated by societal norms.

Her book doesn’t just stop at identifying issues; it profiles women who have made significant strides in their fields.

Celebrating their achievements, she mentioned women like Lady Dr. Nma Love Onyechere and Dr. Mae Jemison (USA), who have broken through barriers and shattered glass ceilings.

The literary work is a narrative that intertwines the exhilarating highs and dark lows of political life, revealing the cunning manipulations and power plays that often dominate the scene. It’s a story that applies to all facets of life, filled with real-life examples, fictional narratives, and historical accounts.

One of the book’s focal points is the word “pussy,” which Adaora seeks to demystify, breaking down its use as a tool of feminine subjugation and vulnerability.

Through this, she provides a poignant commentary on the dynamics of power and human relationships.

Her book, “Politics, X & Power,” is not only a literary work but a crucial instrument for societal transformation.
