5 die, 4 injured in Lagos-Ibadan auto crash

16 die in fatal auto crash in Enugu

ABEOKUTA—Barely 24 hours after five persons lost their lives in an accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, another five persons, yesterday, lost their lives, while four others were injured in another accident, which occurred around Fidiwo Bridge, near Ogunmakin.

The accident, which occurred at 2:48p.m., involved a red Prime bus with number plate MUS191HA and a Toyota Camry car with number plate AKD754BG.

According to statement from the spokesperson of Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, the accident was blamed on wrongful overtaking, excessive speed and tyre bust causing the vehicles to lose control and veered off the road.

She said the injured were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere Remo while the remains of the dead were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara Remo.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector Command, Anthony Uga has observed that speed violation among motorists has been a major cause of crashes on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Uga said drivers should not turn the highway to a race course because the roads were in good condition.
