Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy delivered an electrifying performance at the 66th Grammy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles, California.

The Afrobeats star showcased Nigeria’s rich culture. Accompanied by energetic dancers and a well-coordinated backing band all dressed in vibrant green, reminiscent of the Nigerian flag, Burna Boy graced the Grammys stage.

Burna Boy’s melodious performance kicked off with “On Form,” before he seamlessly transitioned into “City Boys” accompanied by his entourage. The highlight came when he escorted Brandy, a 12-time Grammy nominee, down to the main stage for a rendition of “Sittin’ on Top of the World.” The track samples her 1998 collaboration with Mase, titled “Top of the World.” Additionally, 11-time Grammy nominee 21 Savage, featured on the remix, joined the stage during this captivating performance.

Burna Boy got four nominations for the 2024 Grammys, including Best Global Music Album (I Told Them…), Best Global Music Performance (“Alone”), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Sittin’ on Top of the World”). The powerhouse was also nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance Category (“City Boys”), one of three new categories introduced this year.

The 10-time Grammy nominee won his first and only award in 2021 for best global music album with his fifth studio album, Twice as Tall, becoming the first male Nigerian artist to win for an original work.

Burna Boy misses out on award

South African singer, Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys.

Tyla who had her breakthrough with the hit song ‘Water’ in 2023 defeated a line-up of Nigerian artistes that includes Davido, Burna boy, Asake and Ayra Starr.

An elated Tyla said she didn’t expect it but was glad to win her first Grammy award at only 22.

Both Davido and Burna boy also failed to win in other categories they were nominated in.
