Civil servant docked for duping

A 25-year-old man, Daniel Obigwe of the Federal Housing Authority, Nyanya was on Thursday arraigned before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court charged with cheating.

The Police Prosecutor, Corporal Silas Nanpan, told the court that the crime was reported to the Nyanya Police Station on December 13 by one Isaac Otabor of Mararaba in Nassarawa State.

Nanpan said that the complainant gave the accused N150,000 to secure a “self-contain’’ room for the complainant.

He said that the complainant also gave N18,000 for a burglary proof to be fixed in the house.

He added that after the accused collected the money, he gave out the room to another person without notifying the complainant and absconded to an unknown destination.

Nanpan further said that the accused was later traced and arrested at a check-point in Nyanya.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes section 322 of the Penal Code Law.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by Senior Magistrate,Christopher Oba in the sum of N200,000.

Oba ordered the accused to produce a surety in like sum who must be a civil servant or a person with landed property in Abuja.

The case was adjourned to February13 for hearing. (NAN)
