Okitipupa – A 72-year-old retired Navy  Captain, Akintade Dumiju, was kidnapped on Wednesday  night by  five  gunmen at his  residence in Faboye Quarters of  Okitipupa, Ondo State.

Speaking  in Okitipupa yesterday,  the elder brother of the victim, Chief Ade Dumiju,  expressed shock over the incident.

He said: “My brother was kidnapped around 10 p.m by  five men who  were spotted earlier in the evening around the area.

“ When questioned, the men had claimed they were residents of the area.
“ But as soon as my brother came, one of them followed him in and asked him to follow them at gunpoint.”

Dumiju said his brother struggled with the gunman before he was eventually over powered by  the remaining four armed men.

“They took him away in their own car with his two cell phones.
“When we tried calling the lines,  they rang but nobody picked  the calls until  the phones were switched off.

“During the incident, my brother’s wife shouted for help but nobody came; the neighbours said they didn’t hear  anything due to the  noise from generating sets,” he said.
Dumiju, who  said the family  had no money to pay as ransom, noted that the area had not recorded any case of  kidnap in the  past.

He charged the police to intensify efforts  in securing the release of his brother.
The Okitipupa Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Adegalu, confirmed the incident, saying investigation had commenced.

He said he had visited the scene of the incident immediately it was reported on Wednesday night and was also there yesterday morning  for further investigation.
