An entrepreneur, Alhaji Mukaila Afolabi, 61, has asked the Ikorodu Customary Court to dissolve his six-year-old marriage because of his wife’s alleged unruly behavior and mental cruelty.
Afolabi told the court that his wife, Bosede, was violent.
“If she asks for something and I don’t give her the same moment, she would begin to fight me. She also destroys things in the house and starves me. She has almost burnt all my expensive clothes,” he said.
Afolabi said that his wife also bargained with his manager to embezzle his business money.
“I beg the court to separate us before she kills me,’’ he said.
Bosede, 34, a nurse, denied all her husband’s allegations. She said that her husband ran a hotel and she collected money for him on a daily basis because he lived in London.
“All of a sudden, I just noticed that my husband was having an affair with the manager and had told her never to remit any money to me.
“The day I saw both of them together in our car, I dragged her out and beat her up.
“Since then, he stopped giving me and my children our feeding allowance,’’ she said.
Bosede said all other allegations made against her were not true and she was not ready to leave him, the marriage being blessed with two children.
The court president, Alhaji Nojeem Isiaka, adjourned the case till Dec.29 to make room for possible reconciliation. (NAN)
